ROYCE JONES: Well, this entire ordeal is absolutely heartbreaking. A three-year-old girl shot and killed inside her own home. This is video from the scene along Cambridge Square Drive.

Police were called here just after 9:00 PM. When Monroeville police arrived on scene, they found the little girl with a single gunshot wound. She was later pronounced dead.

And after the homicide unit showed up, detectives say they uncovered strong evidence implicating that the victim's older sibling was the alleged shooter. Reportedly, the five-year-old was playing with the unsecured gun when it accidentally went off. According to police, the gun was legally owned by one of the children's parents who is cooperating with investigators.

And this morning, the top question in this investigation is how was that child able to get its hands on that weapon? Child services have been notified. And if you know anything about this case, you are asked to call the Allegheny County Police tip line. We'll have that number for you posted on our website kdka.com. Reporting live this morning, Royce Jones, "KDKA News."
