3-year-old lying next to sister in camper killed when branch falls, Florida cops say

A 3-year-old lying next to her sister in bed in a camper was killed when a tree branch fell on top of it, Florida police said.

Officers responded to an RV and mobile home park at around 3:15 a.m. on Sept. 27, according to an email from the Ocala Police Department. Ocala is about 80 miles northwest of Orlando.

The 3-year-old girl was lying next to her 5-year-old sister when the branch fell, police said. The sister was not injured.

First responders took the 3-year-old to a hospital where she died of her injuries. The child’s identity has not been released.

“This event appears to be a terrible accident,” police said in a statement.

On Sept. 28, Hurricane Ian made landfall on Florida’s west coast, bringing heavy rains and strong winds across central Florida.

Marion County, where Ocala is located, was placed under a tropical storm warning at 11 a.m. on Sept. 27, according to the Ocala Star Banner.
