3 Ole Miss players earn 2nd-team All-SEC honors

May 22—OXFORD — Three Ole Miss juniors — outfielder Kemp Alderman, shortstop Jacob Gonzalez and catcher Calvin Harris — were named second-team All-SEC Monday.

Alderman, who won the Ferriss Trophy earlier in the afternoon, led the Rebels with a .376 batting average, 19 home runs and 61 RBIs. Alderman's batting average and RBI total ranked seventh in the SEC while his longball total ranked ninth. He is ranked as the No. 64 prospect in the upcoming MLB Draft

Gonzalez, who was a first-team selection last season, hit .327 with 10 home runs and 51 RBIs. Gonzalez has been among the nation's best players since he entered the starting lineup as a true freshman in 2021, with a career batting average of .318, 40 home runs and 158 RBIs. He is widely projected to be among the top draft picks in July's draft. Gonzalez also has more walks (123) than strikeouts (94) in his three seasons.

Harris finished the 2023 campaign with a .321 average, 12 home runs and 46 RBIs. He set a program record with four home runs in a single game against Missouri earlier this month and was named SEC Co-Player of the Week. Harris started 29 games in 2022 — 17 coming in the outfield — and hit a team-high .336. He's ranked as the No. 145 prospect in the 2023 draft.

LSU's Dylan Crews was named SEC Player of the Year, LSU pitcher Paul Skenes was named SEC Pitcher of the Year and Arkansas' Dave Van Horn earned SEC Coach of the Year honors.
