3 Pensacola restaurants given administrative complaints in May inspections. Find out who:

May was a light month for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation as they investigated Escambia and Santa Rosa County restaurants to see if their health standards were up-to-par.

There were 38 restaurants that passed this month's restaurant inspections, compared to the seven that didn’t. Three restaurants received an administrative complaint, while another five restaurants were cited with over five violations. There was plenty of good news to go around though, as 24 restaurants passed with a perfect score. A full list of those can be found at the bottom of this article.

Three restaurants receive administrative complaints

El Paso Taco & Tequila, 8662 Navarre Parkway

Following a May 26 visit from the DBPR, El Paso is under fire for nine violations, five of them considered to be a high priority. Several offenses were pertaining to handwashing practices including employees putting on gloves without washing hands first, washing hands with cold water and washing hands without soap. The offense earning the administrative complaint was for a flying insect spotted in the dish room. A follow-up inspection is still required.

The Chill Spot, 1673 N. Pace Blvd., Suite F

Following a May 12 visit from the DBPR, The Chill Spot received an administrative complaint for operating with an expired Division of Hotels and Restaurants license. A follow-up inspection is still required.

Southern Grill and BBQ, mobile

Following a May 9 visit from the DBPR, Southern Grill and BBQ received an administrative complaint for operating with an expired Division of Hotels and Restaurants license. A follow-up inspection is still required.

Other top 5 offenders:

Five restaurants across Santa Rosa and Escambia counties exceeded five violations from the DBPR, ranging in areas of cleanliness, to dead roaches and live insects.

Fin and Fork, 601 E. Gregory St.

Following a May 19 visit from the DBPR, Fin and Fork received 11 violations, two of which were considered a top priority. Some of the offences included dishwashing sanitizer not set to the proper strength, cutting boards stained with mold, oysters not marked with the proper tag information and tuna being stored at an improper temperature. Still, the restaurant met inspection standards and no further action is required.

Nim’s Garden, 6536 U.S. Highway 90, Milton

Following a May 11 visit from the DBPR, Nim’s Garden received eight violations, one which was considered a high priority. Some of the top offenses included 10 dead roaches on top of a food warmer, three flying insects observed in the kitchen, stored food uncovered in the walk-in cooler and a wall soiled with grease. The restaurant met inspection standards and no further action is required.

Union Public House, 309 S. Reus St.

Following a May 19 visit from the DBPR, the restaurant received seven violations, one of them being a high priority. These offenses included four dead roaches in the restaurant, two food items being stored at improper temperatures and the top of the dishwasher soiled with debris. Still, the restaurant met inspection standards and no further action is required.

El Paso Mexican Grill 3, 5041 Dogwood Drive, Milton

Following a May 18 visit from the DBPR, El Paso received seven violations, three of which were considered a high priority. Some of the top offences included food being stored at improper temperatures, employees not washing hands when needed and floor areas covered in standing water. The restaurant complied with a follow-up inspection the next day with zero violations.

Sonic Drive-In 5287, 4001 U.S. Highway 90, Pace

Following a May 17 visit from the DBPR, Pace’s Sonic received seven violations. However, none were deemed a high priority. Some of the offenses included soiled ceiling vents, surfaces soiled with grease and mold and missing ceiling tiles. A follow-up inspection is still required.
