Three people have been found dead in a home in Richmond Hill, police say.

York Regional Police say they were called to the home on MacKay Drive near Yonge Street and Carville Road on Thursday at about 4:15 p.m.

In a news release on Thursday night, police said they were responding to a well-being check when they discovered the bodies.

"The incident appears to be isolated. Investigators do not believe there is any threat to public safety," police said in the release.

Police have not provided the ages of the deceased, nor commented on any relationship between them.

Homicide detectives are investigating.

Officers have taped off the home as they continue to investigate.

Anyone who has not yet spoken to investigators is urged to come forward, police say.

Multiple neighbours told CBC Toronto that a family with two children have been living on the main floor of the home, and a family of three, including a baby, have been living in a basement unit.

Loretta DiPede, a resident of the neighbourhood, said she was shocked to hear this happen.

"This street is becoming different," said Di Pede. "This is changing, rapidly. And we're scared."
