3 people seriously hurt after SUV hits FedEx truck, overturns and strikes tree on I-10

Three people suffered serious injuries Friday afternoon after an SUV sideswiped a FedEx truck and then overturned several times on Interstate 10 in Escambia County.

Shortly after 2 p.m., a 70-year-old woman from Panama City Beach was driving a white Kia Sorento westbound in the inside lane of I-10 near mile marker four as a FedEx truck was in the outside lane.

The driver of the Kia left the roadway toward the center median, and when entering back onto the roadway, she over-corrected and sideswiped the FedEx truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Kia then lost control of the vehicle and traveled over the center median, overturning several times before crossing over the eastbound travel lanes. The SUV struck a tree on the south shoulder of the I-10 before coming to rest on its side.

All three people who were inside the Kia — the 70-year-old driver and her two passengers, a 38-year-old Lynn Haven woman and a 47-year-old Panama City woman — were transported to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital for their injuries.

All three suffered serious injuries and were listed as being in stable condition Friday evening, according to FHP.

The driver of the FedEx truck, a 50-year-old man from Semmes, Alabama, did not suffer any injuries as a result of the crash.
