BLOOMINGTON — Indiana dominated Bethune-Cookman on Thursday night, winning by a score of 101-49. There was a lot to like from the Hoosiers.

IU improved to 2-0 in this young season. The Hoosiers' biggest test to date will come a week from Friday when they travel to Xavier.

Here are three reasons why IU won Thursday.

3-point shooting

IU fans will likely be excited to read this section.

3-point shooting has been a recurring issue in recent seasons. But the Hoosiers caught fire from deep Thursday night. They shot 10-of-24 (41.7%) on 3-pointers.

Miller Kopp played like the shooting guard IU needs him to be. He was 4-of-6 from deep. Trey Galloway hit two from deep. Tamar Bates, Xavier Johnson, Jordan Geronimo and Malik Reneau each hit one 3.

Simply put, this type of 3-point shooting performance gives IU a dimension offensively that it has lacked over the past few seasons. It’s probably not realistic to expect IU to shoot like this percentage-wise over the course of the season. However, it’s tangible evidence that they can.

Trayce Jackson-Davis + help around him

IU’s star big man put together another stellar performance. He scored 21 points, on 9-of-10 shooting, plus six rebounds and two assists.

The beauty of it, though, is that it didn’t feel like IU was overly reliant on Jackson-Davis. The pieces around him were very productive. IU’s second unit was fantastic, with impressive performances from Galloway, Geronimo and Reneau. This feels like a team with a very good player on it. Not a team carried by a very good player.

Offensive firepower

This goes along with the last two points, but IU’s offense was quite fun to watch Thursday. Tracking back to Archie Miller’s tenure and Mike Woodson's first season at the helm, IU faced its share of struggles offensively.

A caveat: it is still very early in the season. That being said, Thursday was a nice change of pace. The Hoosiers shot 58.3% from the field. They dished out 27 assists. They had 42 points in the paint. They had 33 fast break points. They shot 21-of-22 from the free-throw line.

The multiplicity of ways IU scored was notable. Like IU’s 3-point shooting, some of this may or may not be sustainable over the course of the season, but the fact that the Hoosiers put up those numbers is notable and gives an indication of what their ceiling could possibly be.
