455 W. N.C. Highway 55

A permit was issued on March 1 for $190,000 in renovations at 455 W. N.C. Highway 55 in New Bern for the Pleasant Hill Community Center.

According to Colleen Roberts, New Bern public information officer, funding for the new construction of the 4,000-square-foot building was approved as part of the fiscal year 2022 budget. She said the space will be used as a public amenity.

The center will include New Bern Parks & Recreation offices, a meeting room, restrooms, a large multi-purpose room, and a small kitchen. The building will be available for the community to use for meetings, gatherings, special events, and parks & recreation programs and services.

"The Pleasant Hill area has never had a community center before. A place where the community could come together," Roberts said. "This gives them a brand new modern facility that's much closer to home."

She said construction has already begun, and the center should be open by late summer. Pleasant Hill will be operated by New Bern Parks & Recreation.
