3 shot, including teen suspect, during attempted robbery on West Side

CHICAGO — Three individuals, including a teen suspect, were shot during an attempted armed robbery Monday night on the city’s West Side.

According to police, three individuals were struck by gunfire in the 3800 block of West Roosevelt Road, in the North Lawndale neighborhood, around 10 p.m. A preliminary investigation showed that a 16-year-old boy was attempting to rob two men when the shooting took place, police say.

A 34-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. That man’s father told WGN-TV that no vital organs were hit on his son and that he’s expected to be OK.

A 50-year-old man was struck on the wrist and transported to Saint Anthony Hospital, where he was also listed in good condition.

Meanwhile, police say, the 16-year-old suspect exchanged gunfire with another person, sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg.

The 16-year-old was placed into custody and transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition. However, police say the other shooter in the incident fled the scene and has not been located.

Police say they recovered a gun at the scene.
