Here are three things to know about Alabama football sophomore quarterback Paul Tyson on the day of the A-Day Game:

Great-grandson of Paul 'Bear' Bryant

Tyson's great-grandfather was Paul W. "Bear" Bryant, who won six national championships as coach of the Crimson Tide.

Tyson was recruited by Power 5 programs including Michigan, LSU, Notre Dame and Kentucky, but chose to attend Alabama, where he could continue a family legacy.

Top high school prospect in Alabama

Tyson attended Hewitt-Trussville high school in the Birmingham area. During his time with the Huskies, Tyson developed into a four-star prospect and was the 17th-ranked high school player in the state of Alabama according to 247Sports.

Tyson threw for more than 6,500 yards, recorded 69 touchdowns and had a 68.2 completion percentage in 24 games.

Has knowledge of the Alabama quarterback system

Entering his third season with the Crimson Tide, Tyson has sat behind Alabama standouts Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones during his first two seasons. Although Tyson was behind Bryce Young on the depth chart last season, he developed knowledge of the UA offense.

According to former Alabama backup quarterback Kyle Edwards, Tyson was able to process information quickly during team meetings and was a fierce competitor in practice.
