3 things to know about Clemson baseball pitcher Mack Anglin

Mack Anglin, a redshirt sophomore righthander, will get the start for Clemson in its 2022 ACC Tournament opener against North Carolina at Truist Field in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Anglin will be key to Clemson’s postseason success. The third-team All-ACC selection has been the Tigers’ Friday starter since opening day and has built a 6-5 record in 14 starts this season with a 4.11 ERA.

He has held opponents to a .217 batting average and has struck out 74 batters in 72.1 innings. Anglin’s 10.61 strikeouts per nine innings in his career ranks as the fourth-best total in Clemson history.

The 6-foot-4 Anglin was a standout basketball player at Highland High School in Marengo, Ohio.

A two-time All-State selection, he scored more than 1,000 career points, averaging 15 points per game, and was a four-time letter winner on the court.

The Nationals drafted Clemson's Mack Anglin in 2021

Anglin was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 13th round, No. 383 overall, of the 2021 Major League Draft, but opted to return for another season at Doug Kingsmore Steadium, where he compiled a 6-1 record in 2022.

“There was a little bit (of interest), but deep down I knew I wanted to come back,” Anglin said. “I had that feeling in my gut that I wanted to come back for one more year. It was the second-best decision of my life – with the first one being coming here. This is one of the closest teams I’ve ever had.”

Clemson’s Mack Anglin enjoyed a big opening day

Anglin turned in a standout performance on opening day of the 2022 season, tossing five innings of no-hit ball and striking out eight in the Tigers’ 9-0 victory against Indiana.

“You couldn’t ask for a better start than Mack had today,” Clemson coach Monte Lee said. “We needed that start in game one and he delivered.”
