Southport is getting a new postal facility, and here's what you need to know about it.

1. What is it?

The new 14,000-square-foot building will serve as a carrier annex. In an email, Philip Bogenberger, spokesman for the United States Postal Service, explained that mail delivery will take place from that location, but there will be no retail services offered.

2. Where is it?

The new facility is located at 5260 Dosher Cutoff SE in Southport, which is across the street from Sacred Heart Catholic Church. While this location is in Southport, it is outside the downtown area.

“The Postal Service selected this location after evaluating available sites that optimize our current delivery operations while accounting for future growth,” Bogenberger said.

The current post office, located on Nash Street, will remain in operation for retail services.
