3 things we learned from the Bears, including Matt Nagy’s belief in his defense and Mitch Trubisky’s renewed confidence

The Chicago Bears held their first full practice of Week 1 on Wednesday afternoon at Halas Hall. And while the team’s two top pass rushers — Khalil Mack (limited, knee) and Robert Quinn (out, ankle) — are dealing with injury issues, there’s some optimism about the recovery timetable for running back David Montgomery from a groin injury. Montgomery was a limited participant in practice. Here are three other things we learned.

1. Matt Nagy believes the Bears have the NFL’s best defense.

While much of the summer was spent focusing on the Bears' quarterback competition and their attempts to revive an offense that was rotten for much of last season, Nagy is confident his top-tier defense will hit the ground running Sunday in Detroit.

The Bears coach believes his defense is second to none in the league and has great admiration for the comfort zone those players are in right now.
