3 times Kansas City Chiefs fans helped break Guinness World Records

TOPEKA (KSNT) – With Super Bowl LVIII just around the corner, take a look back through the history books for the moments Kansas City Chiefs fans smashed world records.
The Chiefs are set to face off against the San Francisco 49ers this weekend at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 11 in Las Vegas. The team’s fans have made a few noteworthy additions to the Guinness World Records (GWR) over the years which can be found below.
Largest collection of Chiefs memorabilia
KSNT 27 News first spoke with Chiefs superfan Curt Herrman of Manhattan, Kansas in 2020 as part of the ‘Someone You Should Know’ segment as he prepared to take his Chiefs memorabilia stockpile to GWR for review. At the time, his collection numbered more than 550 items in his basement which was dubbed the ‘Chiefseum.’
While waiting to hear back from GWR, he applied to the international Official World Records based out of Spain. In 2021, with his collection now at 643 items, Herrman’s record was approved by the OWR.
Cigar, food truck festival coming soon in Topeka
Herrman was added to the list of GWR on June 1, 2022, not just for holding the largest collection of Chiefs-related memorabilia in the world. His collection totaled 1,110 items, according to the GWR website.

Loudest Crowd Roar
Chiefs fans have a long history of bringing the noise to back up their favorite team. This led Chiefs superfan Lynn ‘WeirdWolf’ Schmidt to coin the term ‘Decibel Up’ back in 2013.
Fans made their voices heard loud and clear in 2013 when the Chiefs played the Oakland Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium. In a 24-7 win for the Chiefs, fans managed to set the then-record for loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium with 137.5 decibels, according to the GWR website.
Texas development company hired to reimagine West Ridge Mall
The record didn’t stand for long, however. Seattle Seahawks fans snatched the title after they achieved 137.6 decibels during a game against the New Orleans Saints.
The following year, Chiefs fans achieved an ear-splitting 142.2 decibels at Arrowhead Stadium in a 41-14 defeat for the New England Patriots, setting a new record for loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium, according to the GWR website.
Largest Grilling Lesson
Smithfield Fresh Pork made a run for the GWR title for the largest grilling lesson at Arrowhead Stadium during the Chiefs’ Draft Party in 2017. More than 330 participants showed up for the chance to learn the basics of grilling pork, according to the GWR website.
Specifications for the event required a minimum of 250 people to be in attendance and take part in the lesson, that it be held at one venue and be taught for a minimum of half an hour using the same equipment and ingredients. The event even managed to attract Chiefs defensive end Chris Jones.
