Now we could get used to this kind of serene scenery! This unincorporated area was founded when Texas was still part of Mexico. That's right, Texans: Until 1836, you were basically "vacationing" year-round. The land was given its long name to distinguish the settlement from Washington-on-the-Potomac in Washington, D.C. Now, we just have to figure out how many other Washington-named places there actually are in the United States!
