SINGAPORE— Thirty individuals fell ill due to food poisoning after attending a wedding banquet held at The St Regis Singapore hotel along Tanglin Road.

The banquet took place on 3 September, and none of the affected individuals required hospitalisation, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) confirmed in response to inquiries from Yahoo Southeast Asia.

In its response on Thursday (5 Oct), the SFA said that 30 people had "developed gastroenteritis symptoms" after the banquet.

The agency and the Ministry of Health are investigating the incident, the SFA added.

"Food safety is a joint responsibility. While SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices," the SFA said, adding that it "will not hesitate to take enforcement action against errant food operators".

St Regis provided food samples to be tested by third-party

A spokesperson from St Regis told Yahoo Southeast Asia that the hotel was alerted to reports concerning guests falling ill following a wedding lunch reception that took place in the Caroline's Mansion Ballroom.

In response, the hotel launched an investigation into the matter, which "included an examination by the hotel's hygiene officer of the food preparation process".

The spokesperson said the hotel also provided food samples from the wedding reception to be tested by a third-party accredited food safety expert.

The test results were found to be in compliance with food safety guidelines, the spokesperson said, adding that the St Regis is cooperating with the authorities in their ongoing investigations.

"Our hotel takes hygiene and cleanliness very seriously, and the well-being of our guests is always our primary priority. We are regularly in communication with the wedding couple to extend care and the necessary support they may need," the spokesperson added.
