These 32 Mississippi Coast businesses are licensed to sell medical marijuana

The Mississippi Department of Revenue has issued 32 local business licenses for the sale of medical marijuana.

The DOR was tasked with licensing, regulating and enforcing the law for medical cannabis dispensaries. The DOR’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Enforcement Division will handle licensing and regulating dispensaries.

Dispensary employees are required to take eight hours of training covering DOR rules and regulations as well as online training through Metrc, where results are tracked and traced to ensure all dispensary employees are compliant.

Governing authorities of municipalities were able to “opt out of one or more of the following: the cultivation, processing, sale or distribution of medical cannabis and cannabis products,” according to the act. Most of those who opted out, chose to opt out of all four (cultivation, processing, sale and distribution). Boards of supervisors could opt out for unincorporated areas of the county.

Locally, Pass Christian and D’Iberville joined George and Pearl River counties in opting out of dispensaries, but neighboring cities have more than made up for the deficit.
