These 33 California schools ‘set a national example’ and receive latest US education award
The U.S. Department of Education recognized 33 National Blue Ribbon schools in California this year.
A total of 353 schools were recognized throughout the nation for “overall academic performance” and “progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups on assessment,” according to the news release. This is the 40th group of schools to be awarded the Blue Ribbon through the Department of Education.
“The honorees for our 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award have set a national example for what it means to Raise the Bar in education,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona in the Tuesday news release.
What is National Blue Ribbon School?
Each year the U.S. Department of Education recognizes both private and public schools at all educational levels.
The agency will look at elementary, middle and high schools and celebrate those that have had a high performance year or those that have closed the achievement gap, according to the U.S. Department of Education news release.
The agency has been recognizing schools with Blue Ribbons since 1982.
