Victoria Gallardo's husband said they took the virus seriously, but when their 9-year-old caught the virus, things started taking a toll.
ARMANDO GALLARDO: There's nothing else that they can do.
STEVEN ROMO: A desperate plea streamed on Facebook Live.
ARMANDO GALLARDO: Do I just sit here and wait? I sit here and wait for my wife to die? I don't know what to do.
STEVEN ROMO: Armando Gallardo describing his wife's battle with COVID-19. Victoria just 33-years-old and the mom of five kids ages one month to nine-years-old is in a medically induced coma fighting for her life.
ARMANDO GALLARDO: It breaks my heart when the doctor says that there's nothing else that they can do.
STEVEN ROMO: Armando is taking care of his newborn and his older kids all by himself. They all contracted COVID in January, starting with his oldest daughter. Their newborn even got sick. But as they all got better, Victoria's condition worsened.
ARMANDO GALLARDO: She went into the ICU, has been in critical condition. She has no health issues, no underlying health issues at all.
STEVEN ROMO: Armando says the doctors are doing their best but have run out of options. It's not clear why the virus hit Victoria so much harder than the rest of her family. But now her kids haven't seen their mom in more than a month.
ARMANDO GALLARDO: They miss their mom and there's nothing that I can do but be a father.
STEVEN ROMO: And Armando is warning others not to let their guard down.
ARMANDO GALLARDO: People think it's a joke until it hits home. When you see your loved one on a ventilator, literally, like lifeless on a ventilator, in a coma. You know, it breaks your heart.
STEVEN ROMO: He's also asking if anyone in the medical field can help, to please reach out.
ARMANDO GALLARDO: Victoria will fight for me and I'm going to do everything-- I'm her advocate. I'm her voice. So I'm going to fight for her.
STEVEN ROMO: Steven Romo, ABC 13 Eyewitness News.
