$35 million Montgomery County facility to become part of FedEx distribution network

As part of Montgomery County's industrial community, distribution was ramped up when Amazon launched construction of its $100 million facility along Guthrie Highway.

Now, Memphis-based FedEx is getting in the game, confirming this week it is making a $35 million capital investment in Montgomery County.

"Project Distro," as the FedEx Distribution Center had been code-named in local business circles, is already well into construction along International Boulevard in the Clarksville-Montgomery County Corporate Business Park, next to the sprawling Hankook Tire site and across the road from yet another locally-owned distribution center, Red Knight, handling warehoused furniture.

FedEx, focused on transportation, e-commerce and global delivery services, will eventually employ up to 250 people full-time in the Montgomery County facility, said Josh Ward, director of Economic Development for the Clarksville-Montgomery County Economic Development Council (EDC).

"That will be the final number of full-time jobs, once they are at full capacity," Ward said, adding the distribution center is expected to open sometime in 2023.

The new facility will have 250,000 square feet under roof, sitting on more than 55 developable acres

"The EDC is thrilled to welcome another global company to the industrial park.," said EDC CEO Buck Dellinger in prepared comments.

"A FedEx distribution center is a valuable asset for Clarksville-Montgomery County, providing quicker turnaround time for local community deliveries and servicing our industrial partners as a transfer point for network hubs.".

FedEx has been expanding its distribution network in North America with, at last report, a total of 35 million square feet of warehouse space under its management.

Ward added that FedEx chose Montgomery County because of its location and workforce, "and this site in particular for its close proximity to (Interstate 24)."
