A pregnant social media influencer died “unexpectedly” at age 36, just three days before Christmas.
Emily Mitchell — creator of the parenting, farmhouse living and Christian blog and Instagram page “The Hidden Way” — was expecting her fifth child, to be named Joey, who also didn’t survive.
On the morning of Dec. 22, she was having breakfast when she “suddenly became unresponsive,” according to a GoFundMe page set up on behalf of her husband, Joseph Mitchell.
“Despite the prompt attention of her children, husband, father and other medical personnel, all valiant efforts to resuscitate were unsuccessful,” a statement on the fundraiser page read, adding that doctors are still trying to figure out the cause of death.
An online obituary described Mitchell as “a loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister” who was “beautiful inside and out” and who “had an infectious smile and a kind, compassionate spirit.”
She used her Instagram page to share with her more than 111,000 followers her thoughts on motherhood, pets, biblical passages and “chilly mornings huddled in blankets.”
In her final entry, posted on Dec. 8, Mitchell wrote about her upcoming “fifth C-section.”
“However your baby gets here, just know YOUR EXPERIENCE is valid and worthy,” she wrote.
“YOU are no less a mother if you needed emergency medical intervention, had a planned c-section, or an epidural. You aren’t a ‘better’ mother if you had a home birth or an unmedicated vaginal birth,” she wrote as a caption for a sweet family portrait.
“Our hearts are broken and her joyful presence will be greatly missed by so many,” the GoFundMe statement read.
“Em made a big impact in so many people’s lives, and this loss is incomprehensible for anyone who knew her,” it continued
She is survived by “her loving husband Joe, and four beautiful children, Finn, Isla, Edie and Lulu,” according to the fundraising page.
