36 Seneca Valley Students Chosen For PA Honors Band

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA — Seneca Valley had 36 students selected for the 2021 Pennsylvania Music Education Association District 5 Honors Band, reduced to 95 from 125 because of COVID-19 health and safety protocols. The 36 students were more than any other school in a four-county area.

The students went on to participate in a three-day festival that culminated with an in-person concert at Westminster College on Dec. 18.

This year’s honors band was guest conducted by Adam F. Brennan, director of bands and professor of percussion studies at Mansfield University.

To audition, students must be in at least ninth grade and prepare a piece from a predetermined college-level solo list selected by the directors of District 5, which includes Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.

Directors at the secondary level include Varden Armstrong, Robert Babick, Sara Snyder and Brian Croach.
