A 37-year-old man incarcerated at Eyman prison in Florence died Thursday from what officials said was an act of self-harm.

Prison staff found Kurt E. Borgerson unresponsive early Thursday in his assigned housing area, a news release from the Arizona Department of Corrections said. He was later pronounced dead.

Borgerson was sentenced in Maricopa County in October to six-and-a-half years in prison for aggravated assault, according to the department's website.

Borgerson's death was under investigation in consultation with the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office.
