Now that it’s December, almost all the focus will be on the holidays. This week alone there are at least three Christmas parades, along with a boat parade and a Christmas play. And that’s just a taste of the entertainment options in this area. So finish your shopping, for whatever holiday you celebrate, and check out what’s happening locally.

43rd Annual Port Orange Holiday Parade

Scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, the parade’s theme is “Christmas Around the World.” It will start at Jackson Street and run east on Dunlawton Avenue to Spruce Creek Road and will include bands and floats. 30th Annual Ho Ho Home for the Holidays Parade and Tree Lighting

Scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 11, at City Hall Plaza in Ormond Beach, the music will begin at 5 p.m., the tree lighting at 6 p.m. and the parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the theme “Holiday Broadcasts: Favorite Scenes from TV, Movies & More.” The parade route is on the mainland side of Ormond Beach and starts at Division Avenue and Ridgewood Avenue and goes north to Granada Boulevard. Bright Lights and Merry Nights Christmas Parade

Also set for Saturday, Dec. 11, this parade in Daytona Beach will start at 6 p.m. at Bethune Point Park and travel north on Beach Street through downtown Daytona Beach. ‘A Christmas Story’

A Christmas classic, this story of Ralphie Parker and his quest to get a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas, will take the stage at the Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 and Dec. 12, and at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 9-11.

For a break from all the holiday celebrating, take in a concert with George Thorogood and The Destroyers at Peabody Auditorium on Thursday, Dec. 9, with their “Good to Be Bad Tour: 45 Years of Rock.” According to Rolling Stone, “George Thorogood & The Destroyers play rock & roll hot enough to melt the polar icecaps and flood the world’s major population centers.”

The Locals Mix – Music + Arts Expo

The Museum of Arts and Sciences is the place for this event, which features an original music competition, live painting, artisan vendors and food trucks. It’s scheduled for 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the museum, where attendees can also explore the galleries.
