4 area lifters capture gold at boys State Weightlifting meet

LAKELAND − Four area boys weightlifters, including one double winner, captured state championships Saturday in the FHSAA State Championships at RP Funding Center.

Lemon Bay’s Alexander Truisi was double winner, capturing titles in both Traditional (clean and jerk and bench) and Olympic (snatch).

Truisi won the Class 2A 129-pound weight class with a combined 475 in Traditional and 410 in Olympic.

Landon Spanninger of the Manta Rays just missed two gold medals and settled for a gold and silver. He was first in 2A 219-pound weight class with a 575 in Olympic and runner-up with a 655 in Traditional.

The other state champions were determined by body weight after tying for the top spot. Palmetto High’s Kale Bunce captured his second straight state title with a 570 in the Class 3A 183-pound Olympic. Charlotte High’s Zachary Anderson won over Riverview High’s Dabian Reitz in the 3A 139 Traditional after both lifters posted 535s.

Finishing as state runners-up were Owen Tannehill of Lemon Bay with a 530 in the 2A 238-pound Olympic. Jayce Marcum of Port Charlotte High grabbed second in the Olympic 2A Unlimited Class with a 525.

Port Charlotte’s Tyler Dampier took third in the Olympic 2A 238-pound class with a 515. Palmetto’s Tyson Tran grabbed bronze in the Olympic 3A 139-pound class with a 415.

Cardinal Mooney Catholic High’s JR Rosenberg was the area’s top finisher in Class 1A with a third in the Traditional 199-pound weight class.
