I suppose it comes as no surprise that every Republican member of the Arizona congressional delegation — except Reps. David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani — voted to retain the lying, cheating, criminally indicted Republican Rep. George Santos in Congress.

It SHOULD come as a surprise.

But this is Arizona, so it doesn’t.

The argument made by the likes of Reps. Andy Biggs, Eli Crane, Paul Gosar and Debbie Lesko would probably mimic the claims of Republican House leadership.

That is: Santos has yet to be convicted in court.

Santos went on wild spending sprees

Just a few weeks ago, the House Ethics Committee released a scathing report outlining the “substantial evidence” that Santos violated federal law.

It included details of stealing donors’ money, going on wild spending sprees that included thousands of dollars spent at spas and payments for Botox.

Santos used campaign funds to pay off personal credit cards and make purchases as Hermes, Sephora and the adult content website OnlyFans, according to the report.

And yet, somehow, that wasn’t enough for Biggs, Gosar, Crane or Lesko to vote to expel him from Congress.

Is this really how Congress should act?

Essentially, what these four Republicans are saying with their votes is that a member of Congress should be able to do what every single member of the general public would get fired over.

They’re saying ethics don’t matter.

At all.

They’re saying that people who serve the nation at the highest level should not be held to a higher standard than everyone else, but to a much, much lower standard.

And when you vote for them … you agree.
