Out & About: 4 artists share 'Love of Art' in Greensburg exhibition

Oct. 8—Will Vega of Hempfield discovered the joy of painting by watching the long-running PBS show by that name, hosted by the late artist Bob Ross, who encouraged his students by saying, "We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents."

"I studied his technique, and he convinced me that I could do it," Vega said.

He purchased a Bob Ross Master Paint Set and went to work. Some 25 years later, he's showing his work for the first time in "Shades of Autumn: The Love of Art," a four-artist show running through Oct. 31 in the Greensburg Garden & Civic Center.

Vega is joined in the show by his sister, Alli Vega of Bunola, Allegheny County, along with Tami Krusper of Jeannette and Mary Yeager of Scottdale.

Will Vega has branched out from oil painting into airbrush painting and woodworking.

Alli works in pen and ink, often using stippling — a drawing technique in which areas of light and shadow are created using nothing but dots. Many of her works have an eerie aspect.

"Horror is my go-to," she said.

Krusper and Yeager are veterans of exhibitions around the area, including shows at the Greensburg and Latrobe art center. Krusper paints in watercolors and acrylics and makes jewelry. Yeager works in oils, stained glass and pottery.

Dozens of friends, family members, fellow artists and art lovers joined the quartet for an opening reception on Thursday evening.

Acoustic music was provided by Derek Woods, front man of the Derek Woods Band who also performs with his wife in Woods Rising and with his father and brother in The Woods Family Band.

"Shades of Autumn" is available for viewing from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays in the center at 951 Old Salem Road. Many of the featured works are for sale; artist contact information is available on site.
