4 El Paso high school baseball players named All-State team

Four El Paso high school baseball players have been named to the Texas Sports Writers All-State team.

In Class 4A, Diego Cardenas was named to the third team as a first baseman after hitting four homeruns and driving in 52 runs for Riverside. The recent high school graduate helped lead the Rangers to the District 1-4A championship and to the regional quarterfinals of the playoffs.

In Class 5A, Horizon pitcher Barry Miller was named to the honorable mention team. Miller finished his junior season with a .86 earned run average. 130 strikeouts in 68.2 innings pitched and an 8-3 record. He was also named to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches All-State team earlier this summer.

In Class 6A, Americas' Armani Raygoza and Eastwood's Isaac Herrera were named to the honorable mention team as first baseman and third baseman, respectively. Raygoza helped the Trailblazers to a school-best 30 wins, a District 1-6A championship and a bi-district playoff title. He finished the season with eight homers and 35 RBI and three wins and three saves. He has signed with UT-Rio Grande Valley to continue his playing career.

Herrera, who was also named to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State team, hit .422 with 11 doubles and 33 RBI. He also went 6-3 on the mound with a 3.05 ERA.
