4-H members recognized at Junior Fair night at the Guernsey County Fair

OLD WASHINGTON — A new king and queen were crowned at the 176th Guernsey County Fair on Monday as the annual event officially kicked off.

Carson Clouse, a former fair king, sang the national anthem as the flag was raised, followed by the playing of Taps by Guernsey County Honor Guard Commander Jim Gibson. A moment of silence was held to remember those who passed away in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. First responders lined up on the track, heads bent, hands over their hearts.

As 4-H members wrapped up the first day of showing their goats and cows, 4-H'ers from across the county were recognized at the Monday night program. Those students who received awards and got to show their still projects at the Ohio State Fair were honored in front of friends and family in the grandstand.

The evening continued with the presentation of two awards, the Friend of 4-H Award which was presented to Jennie Shultice, who was also celebrating a birthday, and the 4-H Hall of Fame Award which was presented to Courtney Haug. A parade followed the awards, giving 4-H clubs a chance to compete for best float. The parade judges were Buckeye Trail Superintendent Mike Ferguson, Rolling Hills Superintendent Devon Dettra, Cambridge Superintendent Dan Coffman and East Muskingum Superintendent David Adams.
