SEBRING – The Mahoning County Ohio State University Extension is hosting free 4-H Summer Day Camps for area students.

The events in Sebring kicked off June 23, with day camps for students in grades three to 12.

At B.L. Miller Elementary School, staff from Mahoning County Ohio State Extension worked with students as they explored topics related to nature, including plants and weather. Students got their hands dirty planting their own parsley seeds to take home and nurture.

“The camp is a program we designed after receiving a Summer Learning and Afterschool Opportunities Grant from the Ohio Department of Education,” says Kristen Eisenhauer, the Mahoning County Extension educator. “The goal of these grants is to provide summer hands-on learning opportunities to youth who were heavily affected by remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our camps provide themed opportunities for students to explore STEAM-based 4-H curriculum in a fun and safe environment.”

The program features three different sessions for each age range throughout the summer. The day camps are free to area students and include lunch. Upcoming sessions at Sebring include:
