(NATIONAL) — The solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, during which 4 million people will travel to the path of totality, will create an increased need for emergency preparedness and safety measures, according to surveillance expert Dean Drako, CEO of Eagle Eye Networks.

“With Monday’s total solar eclipse expected to be the largest mass travel event in 2024, the need for reliable video surveillance systems is more timely than ever. Four million people will travel to the path of totality for the eclipse, increasing traffic and putting a strain on first responders,” he said.

The solar eclipse is expected to generate between $372 million and $1.5 billion as millions of people travel to see the astronomical event. Drako and his team at Eagle Eye Networks are keen to make people aware of the benefits of AI-powered surveillance during events like this year’s eclipse.

“The good news is that technology has paved the way for public enjoyment while protecting local businesses and campuses from criminal threats,” said Drako. “Video surveillance systems are essential during special events such as an eclipse, allowing business owners, schools, and other organizations to keep an eye on their facilities during business closings. AI-powered video analytics can alert business owners to situations during the eclipse, such as individuals gathering in a restricted area or a camera being tampered with.”
