A 3-year-old boy died and his twin brother was in critical condition after they were found unresponsive Friday morning in the backyard pool of a Porter Ranch home, authorities said.

Fire and emergency medical personnel responded to the home on Des Moines Avenue just after 10:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The boys' parents pulled the children from the pool and performed dispatcher-assisted CPR, fire officials said.

The children were transported to a regional pediatric trauma center.

At a news conference, LAFD Capt. Eric Scott said "paramedics worked feverishly to provide every chance possible for these children," KTLA reported.

“Tragically," he said, "one of those boys was pronounced dead at the hospital."

Authorities had no update on the second child's condition as of Saturday afternoon.

“There’s nothing to indicate anything beyond a tragic accident here,” LAPD Capt. Kelly Muniz said at the conference, according to KTLA.

The mayor's Crisis Response Team was also sent to the home to provide support to family and neighbors.
