4 SAISD students earn All-State status

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Four students from the San Angelo Independent School District have reached the highest level a high school musician can achieve by becoming members of the Texas Music Education Association’s All-State bands.

SAISD congratulates the following students in their accomplishments:

  • Arick Brooks, Central High School senior, All-State Mixed Choir, tenor

  • Heidi Bundick, Lake View High School senior, All-State Band, double bass

  • Isaac Carrales-Rodriguez, Lake View High School junior, All-State Mariachi, trumpet

  • Mia Wilcox, Central High School senior, All-State Band, flute

To be selected for the All-State honor, the students joined over 70,000 high school
musicians from across the state to audition before a panel of judges in 33 TMEA Regions.
Auditioners who ranked the highest then advanced to compete against student musicians from
other TMEA Regions at the TMEA Area level, with the highest ranking then qualifying for
All-State status.

“To become a member of the elite TMEA All-State band, choir or mariachi program is
something to be celebrated and applauded,” Tiffany Huebner, SAISD director of Fine Arts and Advanced Academics, said. “The amount of talent, time, and effort given to this accomplishment says much about the musician and their dedication to perfect their craft. SAISD is super proud of our All-State musicians and teachers who have supported them through this journey.”

Heidi Bundick has been named a member of the All-State Band for three consecutive years,
while Mia Wilcox has been honored as a member of the All-State Band for the last two consecutive years. This is the first year Arick Brooks and Isaac Carrasles-Rodriguez have been honored as All-State musicians.

The All-State student musicians will perform with their respective All-State ensembles on
Feb. 10, 2024, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas. Nationally recognized conductors will direct the ensembles who rehearse for three days and conclude with the concert performances.

SAISD also thanks all of the educators who helped to develop and cultivate the students’ talents, including the following people:

  • CHS Band Director Jason Jones

  • Mike Barry

  • Stephanie Ellis-Dearborn

  • Robert Kosko

  • Caleb Lenard

  • CHS Director of Choirs Landon Gilmore and Sunday Vaught

  • LVHS Mariachi Directors

  • Rosendo Ramos and Ezra Ramirez

  • LVHS Band Director Franklin Piland

  • LVHS Orchestra Director Stephanie Infante

“San Angelo ISD extends proud congratulations to these talented students and commends
their dedication to creating beautiful music while exemplifying the attributes of the SAISD Learner Profile,” SAISD said. “We thank our committed SAISD educators who help to develop and cultivate the talents of our students in celebration of all the ways students are smart.”
