4 stabbed at Sioux Falls house party Saturday; minor in critical condition, police say

Authorities with the Sioux Falls Police Department say they've arrested one person on four counts of aggravated assault, after four people, including a minor, were stabbed at the house party this weekend.

Officers were called to incident a little after 1 a.m. Saturday at 3800 block of North Oklahoma Avenue, department spokesperson Sam Clemens said during a police briefing Monday morning with media. The minor was taken to an area hospital in a critical condition.

“Some type of house party was going on,” Clemens said. “And at some point, there was an argument between two people.”

He said one of the people ended up pulling out a knife and stabbed four people. Among those who were injured was a 17-year-old who had a cut to his abdomen and face, and three 18-year-olds cut in the leg, abdomen, and in the arm and leg, respectively.

“Everybody went to the hospital to get treatment,” said Clemens.

He said the suspect, Anyuon Atem,18, from Luverne, Minnesota, was still on scene when the officers arrived. Clemens said according to the doctors, the 17-year-old was in a critical condition and was taken to have surgery right away when they arrived at the hospital.

Drugs were not involved in the incident, Clemens said. As of Monday morning, police had not been updated on the condition of the patients, which usually it means nobody passed away, Clemens said.

“Unless somebody passes, that'd be the only time that we get notified,” Clemens said.
