4-star center Peyton Marshall decommits from Auburn basketball

AUBURN — Auburn basketball is now down to two recruits in the Class of 2024.

Peyton Marshall, a four-star center out of Kell High School in Marietta, Georgia, has decommitted from the Tigers, he announced Friday afternoon. Marshall initially pledged to Auburn and coach Bruce Pearl in December.

"First and foremost I would like to thank Bruce Pearl and the Auburn coaching staff," Marshall wrote. "After news of recent coaching staff changes within the program and recent talks with the ones closest to me, it is within my best interest to re-open my recruitment."

Marshall's mom, Khia, told the Montgomery Advertiser in December that her son chose the Tigers because of Auburn's proximity to Georgia, as well as the relationships the coaching staff built with her family. Assistant Wes Flanigan, who is reportedly leaving Auburn to join Chris Beard at Ole Miss, was someone she highlighted specifically.

"Wes has that kind of uncle, down-home personality," Khia Marshall said Dec. 9. "(He's) very relatable. ... He just has a very good attitude. ... We just felt comfortable throughout the whole recruitment process talking to him on good days, bad days, good games, bad games. He never made us feel like it was just about him being a coach for Auburn, it was more like an old cliche saying, you've got a friend in me."

The Tigers still have two players in the Class of 2024: Alabama's top-rated recruit, Labaron Philon, and five-star guard Tahaad Pettiford from Hudson Catholic in New Jersey.
