Mickens is the second defensive lineman to decommit from the program after four-star recruit Darron Reed flipped his commitment from LSU to Auburn on Friday.
At 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, Mickens is the No. 18 edge rusher and No. 138 recruit in the nation, per 247Sports Composite. He attends Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis and is the No. 2 prospect in Indiana.
"After much prayer, (and) conversations with my family and coaches, at this time I have decided to decommit from LSU and re-open my recruitment. Thank you again to the entire LSU football community for the love and support you have shown over the last year," Mickens wrote.
His lead recruiters were special teams coordinator Brian Polian and defensive line coach Jamar Cain, according to 247Sports.
LSU has 23 players committed to its 2023 class following Mickens' decision. Prior to his decommitment, LSU had the No. 5 recruiting class in the nation.
