4-star Gators tight end target cuts list down to 2 schools

Four-star Van Nuys (Calif.) Birmingham athlete Arlis Boardingham has narrowed his potential college choices down to two finalists, and the Gators made the cut. Boardingham, the No. 485 overall player in the 2022 class and No. 31 athlete according to the 247Sports Composite, visited UF two weeks ago and is set to visit his other finalist this coming weekend in Oregon.

Boardingham is a talented and versatile player who has seen action at running back, receiver, tight end, linebacker and defensive end in high school. However, Florida has mostly been recruiting him as a tight end or H-back, and it has made a hard push for him in recent weeks after offering him on Dec. 22.

The visit and the new coaching staff made a positive impression on Boardingham, according to 247Sports’ Greg Biggins.

“I had a great visit there and really like how they plan to use me,” he said of UF. “I like the new staff a lot. Everyone there is on the same page and as a program, it seems like they all know what they want. They’re pushing hard for me and I love the offensive scheme and how well I fit in there.

“Coach Napier is a great guy and all the players talk about the positive changes he has already made with the program. He has gone to great lengths to take care of the players and he’s a coach I know I would be comfortable playing for me.”

One problem SEC schools often run into when recruiting kids from the West Coast is the sheer distance between the players and their homes and families. That would give the Ducks the upper edge, but it seems that going far away from home wouldn’t be an issue for Boardingham.

“I’m good with the location and my parents are too. At first, the distance was a little bit of a factor and my parents weren’t super fired up on it but on the way home, they were satisfied that Florida was a place they would be comfortable with me attending. A plane ride is a plane ride right, you’re going to be away from home anyway so that’s not an issue for me any more.”

Boardingham is one of the top uncommitted players in the 2022 recruiting class, and he’s among Florida’s highest-rated remaining targets. He is yet to set a commitment date, saying he could announce before signing day, on signing day or even a few days after.
