According to astrologer Alice Bell, they’re really quite practical beings, earthy through and through. “Capricorns crave stability,” Bell says. “They have very specific daily patterns that they take pride in and prefer a more structured reality, so everything they surround themselves with has to serve some sort of purpose.” According to Bell, this is generally true of their fashion choices, too. Then again, would you really associate utilitarianism with the styles of Aaliyah, FKA twigs, Sade, and Kate Moss, all of whom share a birthday today?

It’s true that both Sade and Kate Moss have tended towards a quietly cool sense of minimalism over the years. Consider the singer’s penchant for high-waisted black pants and oversize button-downs or the supermodel’s sleek, simple black dresses, for example. Aaliyah’s signature tomboy stance could be considered low-key, at least in a baggy, skater-boy way, and yet there’s really nothing sensible or safe about the glorious, boundary-pushing performance style that FKA twigs is famous for. Still, they do all share an allusive mystique, one that has left fashion-lovers hanging on their every last look for decades. Could it be that there is an Aquarian aspect at work here? After all, the sun will be in Aquarius, an air sign that has always been associated with free-spirited creativity, in little under a week. Or maybe Capricorns are really just secret fashion freaks underneath it all.
