4-vehicle collision involving concrete mixer truck in Sumner blocks westbound SR-410

A collision on state Route 410 in Sumner on Thursday morning involved four vehicles and led to a concrete mixer truck being turned on its side. All of the westbound lanes were blocked while crews worked to remove the truck.

The collision occurred just east of Traffic Avenue about 7:28 a.m. Westbound traffic was being diverted to state Route 162.

The incident was cleared by noon, and state Route 410 reopened.

Two people were transported to the hospital, Washington State Patrol Trooper Robert Reyer said. He said a 21-year-old woman with neck pain went to the hospital as a precaution, and the 54-year-old driver of the concrete mixer truck was transported with back injuries. The extent of his injuries was unknown.

Reyer said the woman taken to the hospital caused the crash. He said she swerved into the right lane where she hit the concrete mixer truck, then swerved back to the left lanes, where she struck the rear of one car, pushing it into another vehicle.

Crews from East Pierce Fire & Rescue, the Washington State Department of Transportation and WSP troopers responded to the incident.
