40-year-old Sioux Falls woman killed in pedestrian crash near 6th Street

No arrests or citations have been made for a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on Monday evening in central Sioux Falls.

That's according to Sioux Falls Police Department spokesperson Sam Clemens at a Tuesday morning police briefing with media. A 53-year-old woman from Larchwood, Iowa, was driving west at about 6:30 p.m. on 6th Street when she hit a Sioux Falls woman crossing a little past the intersection of North Indiana Avenue.

The pedestrian, 40, had serious life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Drugs, alcohol, nor speed do not to appear to be a factor in the accident, Clemens said.

The minor damage on the 2009 Chevy Traverse that hit the pedestrian from Sioux Falls amounted to about $3,000. The police department is in the process of conducting a reconstruction of the scene to understand what led to the fatal accident, said Clemens.

The name of the victim in the crash has not yet been released.
