40-year-old woman shot in Wilmington Sunday afternoon, marking 8 shootings in 8 days

A 40-year-old woman was shot Sunday afternoon, marking the eighth person shot in Wilmington in eight days.

Yellow crime scene tape closed off the parking lot of Ray's Wilmington Market in the 700 block of Maryland Ave. as officers investigated the scene. Officers walked over what appeared to be dried blood and a black shoe at the entrance of the convenience store.

The shooting occurred at around 3:48 p.m. and the woman was taken to the hospital in stable condition, police said.

Three of the eight people who were shot this past week died. So far this year, 38 people have been killed by gun violence in Wilmington, compared with 30 homicides in all of 2020 and 27 in 2019.
