41 Children, Including Newborn, Among 244 Migrants Rescued by Italian Coast Guard

Forty-one minors, including a newborn baby, were among the 244 migrants rescued by the Italian Coast Guard during a 16-hour operation off the coast of Calabria on the night of November 27-28.

The infant was born on the fishing boat being used by the migrants, just hours before the rescue, which saw everyone on the vessel brought to shore.

The Italian coast guard said the mission, which involved Frontex and Romanian Border Police, was “complex” due to “weather and sea conditions.” Credit: Guardia Costiera via Storyful
