I-435 crash killed a Kansas City woman and sent a teen to the hospital

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City woman died and a teen seriously injured in a crash on I-435 on Friday night.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash log, the crash happened around 8:10 p.m. and involved two cars and three people.

A Dodge Journey and Jeep Wrangler were both being driven north on I-435 in Claycomo near the Kansas City and Liberty border.

The crash report details that the Jeep was driven off the right side of the road and into a guard rail. The car ricocheted to the other side of the road into a concrete wall and then flipped. The driver of the Dodge then crashed into the Jeep.

The Jeep’s driver was a 53-year-old woman who the crash logs identify as Julie Groce. She was taken to a hospital but died from the crash despite wearing a seatbelt.

In the Dodge were a 40-year-old driver and a 15-year-old boy passenger both also wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The teen was seriously hurt and taken to a hospital. The man was taken to a hospital moderately injured.
