Phoenix crash involving stolen car at 43rd Avenue and Thunderbird Road closes roads, kills 3

The intersection of 43rd Avenue and Thunderbird Road in Phoenix was shut down in all directions following a fatal "very serious, multi-vehicle collision" Friday morning, the Phoenix Police Department said.

The accident happened just before 2 a.m. when a stolen vehicle traveling northbound on 43rd Avenue at a high rate of speed, collided with another car turning left onto Thunderbird Road from southbound 43rd Avenue.

The car making a left turn immediately erupted into flames following the collision and all three adults inside were pronounced dead on the scene, according to Phoenix Police Department.

The three victims inside the car have not yet been identified.

Six people ranging in age from teenagers to young adults were inside the stolen vehicle at the time of the collision, Phoenix police said.

Authorities said a woman in her 30s was in extremely critical condition and another woman in her 20s was taken to the hospital in critical condition, Phoenix fire said. Four teenagers were also taken to the hospital: two teen boys were in critical condition, one teen boy in stable condition and one teen girl in stable condition.

An investigation is ongoing at this time. The intersection of 43rd Avenue and Thunderbird Road would be closed for several hours, officials said.

Commuters were asked to seek alternative routes during their morning commute.
