49ers players, NBA star and fellow TE react to George Kittle contract on Twitter

George Kittle’s record-setting contract extension set off the NFL news cycle Thursday. The deal was a big enough splash that it reached well beyond the confines of the Bay Area and 49ers fans.

Kittle is one of the 49ers’ leaders and their best offensive player. It was no surprise to see 49ers players on social media congratulating him. However, the deal sent a big enough ripple that a non-49er and a non-NFL athlete also tweeted out congratulations on Kittle’s five-year, $75 million deal.

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph gave a shoutout to his fellow TE and inventor of National Tight End Day. He also congratulated Chiefs TE Travis Kelce, who inked a four-year deal worth up to $58 million shortly after Kittle’s contract was done.

It wasn’t just NFL players who took notice though. Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young weighed in as well. Young and Kittle both attended high school in Norman, Okla.
