The San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was honored by his hometown Queen Creek with a proclamation that wishes him good luck for Sunday’s “big game.”

Purdy will face off against the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas for Super Bowl 58.

The Town Council, wearing 49ers red, presented the "Brock-lamation" to acknowledge its pride and admiration for Purdy, who started his football career as a young kid in the San Tan Youth Football League.

"While playing a professional sport may feel like reaching for the stars much less playing for the very top game in that sport, that is exactly what one young man from Queen Creek, let's set the records straight from Queen Creek, is doing," Mayor Julia Wheatley said.

“Mr. Purdy has demonstrated exceptional leadership both on and off the field, embodying the values of teamwork, integrity and resilience, serving as an inspiration for aspiring young athletes,” the proclamation reads.

Queen Creek is also showing its support for its hometown football hero by placing banners in its parks, library and recreation annex facility.

Youth league coaches feel pride

Brothers Adam and Jeremy NeVille saw Purdy grow up in town and on the field by coaching him in the San Tan Youth Football League. The duo didn’t set out to build NFL stars but to build character in young boys and teach them how to be “pillars in the society.”

Knowing one of their own has made it this far is a point of pride for them.

Adam, the president of the league, has got his 49ers jersey with Purdy’s name ready to wear Sunday. “It couldn’t happen to a better kid,” he said about Purdy making it to the Super Bowl.

Adam coached Purdy when he was about 8 years old and was always impressed by how smart he played on the field. He remembers him as a good respectful kid with polite manners who was coachable.

“He’s never been the biggest or strongest but he’s very smart,” he said. He never thought in a million years that a kid from the league could be the starting quarterback in the Super Bowl.

Purdy has been a source of pride and inspiration for the players in the league. “They can relate to, I think, Brock better because they know they have a chance,” he said.

Jeremy coached him when Purdy was 13 years old with a Jr. High traveling team. Watching him play Jeremy knew he was “special because of his character, leadership and calmness.”

“Nothing rattled him no matter how many times he had to run for his life because a 300-pound (linebacker) was chasing him,” he said.

He followed Purdy’s career through high school and college and he gets choked up thinking about him playing in the big game.

Jeremy plans to soak up every minute of the game wearing his jersey.

“First time I’ve ever put on a 49ers jersey in my life honestly and I’m wearing it proud,”  he said.
