49ers rookies have their initial jersey numbers

The 49ers on Friday began their rookie minicamp, which means we got the all-important jersey number reveal.

Here are the jersey numbers for 12 of the 49ers’ rookies via Matt Barrows and Chris Biderman:

QB Trey Lance, 5
OL Aaron Banks, 62
RB Trey Sermon, 28
CB Ambry Thomas, 41
OL Jaylon Moore, 76
CB Deommodore Lenoir, 38
S Talanoa Hufanga, 29
LB Elijah Mitchell, 49
WR Austin Watkins, 7
LB Elijah Sullivan, 59
LB Justin Hilliard, 58
TE, Josh Pederson 83

Jersey numbers this early in the process aren’t permanent. Rookies are given available numbers that don’t presently belong to veterans on the roster.

A couple numbers that belong to rookies were worn by veterans on the roster last year who changed their numbers over the offseason.

Thomas is donning the No. 41 worn by CB Emmanuel Moseley. Moseley is set to change to No. 4 this year according to his social media.

Hufanga is wearing No. 29, which was SS Jaquiski Tartt’s number prior to his change to No. 26 this offseason.

These numbers could change though depending on what the final roster looks like, so don’t get a jersey just yet. Lance will likely keep No. 5 though since that was his college number and there was a significant deal made about the fact he chose that number. Beyond that though, changes could be coming once the 53-man roster is set.
