4A state marching contest results: Canyon, West Plains earn Texas top-10 finishes
SAN ANTONIO — Among the 26 Class 4A marching bands competing at the UIL State Marching Band Championships Wednesday at the Alamodome were all three high schools from Canyon ISD, two of which earned a spot as one of the top 10 bands of their size in the state of Texas.
Preliminary 4A competition took place Wednesday morning with finals in the evening. Ten of the 26 state qualifiers advanced from the preliminary round to the finals.
2A state marching contest results: Panhandle takes bronze in San Antonio
Canyon and Canyon West Plains both advanced to the final round of competition. Canyon High's apocalyptic show "The Remnant: Surviving the Wasteland" earned the band eighth, and second-year school West Plains' "Starry Night" finished the day 10th. Canyon Randall finished 16th in prelims with "Heart and Soul."
Celina was named state champion, while Frisco Panther Creek and Anna took silver and bronze, respectively.
