4DFX movie ride opens at Hilton Hawaiian Village

Jul. 7—A new Waikiki attraction, Hawaii CinemAttractions, is offering guests a chance to feel the wind in their face while they speed down a roller coaster, get hit with mist as they enter a surfing barrel or smell the fragrant foliage as they fly over the Hawaiian Islands.

The 4DFX movie rides let guests feel the world around them more deeply or go on a thrilling adventure without leaving their synchronized motion seats. Hawaii CinemAttractions also offers an introductory virtual reality experience, big-screen gaming and a retro arcade in the location next to the Tapa Bar in the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

"Newer, family-focused attractions are rare in Waikiki, " said Debi Bishop, managing director at Hilton Hawaiian Village. "We're glad to offer local and visiting families something new and fun to do together at Hilton Hawaiian Village. Beyond the amazing 4D cinema experiences, there really is something for every age group—from the latest in VR tech to vintage arcade games of decades past."

The attraction, which debuted last week, is open from 2 to 9 p.m. daily and has been a long time coming.

Hawaii CinemAttractions is launching as Oahu businesses are still subject to social distancing measures.

"We've hired about 10 people. Once we are allowed to fill all 32 seats, we may add more, " said Adrienne Ishizu, Hawaii CinemAttractions general manager.

The attraction also is partnering with local talent. Films will rotate, but Ishizu said two of the first five were created by Minus Zero Films of Hollywood and feature cast and crew from Hawaii.

"Michael Oblowitz directed 'Soaring Over Hawaii 4DFX' and 'Adventure Quest Hawaii 4DFX, ' and is an award-winning director known for his surfing films and has a strong connection to the Hawaii surfing community, " she said.

The "Soaring Over Hawaii " soundtrack was composed and performed by Anton Fig, featuring Hawaiian musician Melvin Puu and award-winning vocalist Angela Morales.

The Adventure Quest Hawaii thrill ride, which is shown with side-wraparound screens, features a host of extreme outdoor adventure legends and champions having fun on Oahu.

For those who like more nail-biting thrills, Roller Coasters offers a wild ride through all types of roller coasters, including an undersea adventure.

There's also a chance to slow it down with One Planet One People, an emotional cinematic journey around the world through the eyes of Devin Graham, also known as Devin Super Tramp. The American extreme sports and adventure videographer's YouTube channel has made him famous.

The ownership group has embarked on an environmentally-focused partnership with Mananalu, a canned-water company founded by Jason Momoa, who is taking a stand against water packaged in single-use plastic bottles. Every ticket purchaser currently gets one free can of Mananalu water.

CinemAttractions is now accepting bookings at 4dfxhawaii.com. Tickets for each film are $16 for kids (ages 12 and under ) and $20 for adults, with discounts available for kamaaina, seniors and military. There is also a "buy two films, get one free " deal per person.
