4th of July: Scheduled road closures for downtown Indianapolis fireworks show

Ahead of this year’s Fourth of July festivities, Downtown Indy, Inc. has released the scheduled road closures for the firework show at the Veterans’ Memorial Plaza.

Over 3,000 firework shells will be launched from the 500 North Meridian Building for the second year in a row, said Downtown Indy, Inc. communications manager Max Wing.

The following road closures will be in effect from 9:45-10:30 p.m. July 4:

  • North and Michigan streets will be closed between Illinois and Pennsylvania streets.

  • Illinois Street will be closed between Ohio and St. Clair streets.

  • Meridian Street will be closed between Vermont and St. Clair streets.

Vermont, New York and Ohio streets will remain open.

No spectators or parking will be permitted at Veterans’ Memorial Plaza, located between Illinois and Pennsylvania streets.

Downtown Indy Fourth of July fireworks: If you go

Fireworks will commence promptly at 10 p.m. Wing recommended arriving early and staying late to avoid any delays from traffic.

Wing said the most optimal viewpoints are the American Legion Mall and the Indiana War Memorial Grounds, with additional vantage points near the canal and IUPUI.

Gordon's Milkshakes and Las Tortugas food trucks will be on-site for snacks during the show.

Additionally, the show, expected to last 21 minutes, will be synced with music playing on local Emmis Communications stations B105.7 and 97.1 Hank FM.

Hoosiers can catch the Indianapolis minor league baseball team play the Iowa Cubs at Victory Field at 6:15 p.m. July 4, with a firework display after the game.
